Overall, it was a positive week for precious metals as the chart above shows. Of the four listed, three of them showed gains with just one posting an overall loss for the week. Showing the biggest gain was palladium which jumped 4.3%. It was followed by the more meager 0.9% increase for silver and gold’s slight 0.4% bump up. Platinum shed a few dollars and ended down 0.4%.

It was a short week in London for precious metals owing to the Christmas holiday. As such, no Fix was established on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday’s Fix, however, was up to $30.19 from last Friday’s $29.89. Jumping to Thursday saw the Fix drop to $29.75 an ounce before Friday’s recovery to $30.15 an ounce.

At $30.15 an ounce, the precious metal is up $3.48 from the 2012 low set on July 12th. That low was $26.67 making Friday’s Fix up 13.05% from that low.

On the other side, silver is still down significantly from the 2012 high set on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce. Doing the math shows this Friday’s Fix down $7.08 from that high, or down 19%.
