February Starts Off With Silver Coin Melt Values Down a Fraction

Starting off the month of February, silver lost a fraction of a percent based on the Friday to Friday London Fix. This minimal decrease also affected Silver Coin Melt Values, although the percentage drop was minor.

For the week, silver shed just $0.13, or a decline of 0.4%. The London Fix for Silver for today, February 1, 2013 was $31.43 an ounce.

Unfortunately, silver was the only precious metal of the four shown above to realize a decline for the week with its 0.4% drop. The other three metals showed improvement, although two of them were relatively minor. Both gold and platinum increased just 0.5%. Palladium, on the other hand, had a significant 2.8% jump.

Focusing back on silver shows the white metal had a roller-coaster of a week. The Fix on Monday was $30.87, down from the previous Friday’s $31.56. On Tuesday it rose to $31.06, with Wednesday realizing another increase to $31.35. Thursday showed a very large bump up with a fix of $32.03 before this Friday’s drop to the aforementioned $31.43 an ounce.

Comparing this Friday’s Fix to the 2013 low shows the precious metal up $2.11 from that low, or 7.2%. The low was set on January 4th with a Fix of $29.32 an ounce.

The 2013 high was set on January 23rd with a fix of $32.23 an ounce. Comparing this Friday’s Fix to that high shows a negative $0.80, or down 2.5%.
