Second Week of February Sees Silver Coin Melt Values Decline Again

Silver Coin Melt Values trended down again for the second week in a row based on Friday’s end of the week silver spot. The London Fix for Silver for Friday, February 17, 2012 was $33.48 an ounce.

While not a major decline, this was a drop of $.07 from where it stood one week ago with $33.55 an ounce. Looking at the percentages shows the precious metal dipped just 0.2%.

As shown in the chart above, silver was the only precious metal of the four to show a decline for the week. Platinum and palladium ended at the same spot as they had one week ago with gold realizing a modest increase of 0.7%.

Getting back to silver, the white metal spent the week in a roller-coaster of ups and downs. Monday’s spot was $33.84 an ounce, up $.29 from the previous Friday. Then Tuesday dipped to $33.51 before Wednesday’s jump to $33.69. Thursday took a larger dive to $33.18 before the aforementioned Friday spot of $33.48.

Looking at the year in general shows last week Wednesday spot of $34.37 as the high for the year. The low is held by January 3rd with its $28.78 an ounce. Based on that January 3rd figure, silver is now up 16.3% so far this year.
