Silver Coin and Silver Set Melt Values Drop in Second Week of March

Silver prices realized a slow negative slide all week bringing silver coin and silver set melt values down along with it. The London Fix for Silver for Friday, March 16, 2012 was $32.27 an ounce.

This equates to drop of 4.7% (-$1.60) from where it stood just one week previous. Last Friday’s London Spot was $33.87 an ounce.

As indicated by the above chart, the four precious metals were split in their results. While the aforementioned silver and also gold ended the week down, platinum and palladium realized weekly increases. By far, the biggest change percentage wise, however, was silver with its 4.7% dip.

The silver markets actually showed declines each day this week. Monday’s London Fix was $33.77 down from the previous Friday’s $33.87. Tuesday dropped to $33.58 with Wednesday going even lower to $32.84. Thursday’s Spot was $32.36 with Friday coming in at the previously stated $32.27 an ounce.

Silver is now down $4.96 from its 2012 high established on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce. Conversely, the precious metal is up $3.49 (12.1%) from its 2012 low point established on January 3rd of $28.78.
