Silver Coin Melt Values Decline Last Full Week of January

Silver Coin Melt Values spent most of the week in positive territory before a slide on Friday resulted in a weekly drop. Silver lost $0.26 an ounce based on the Friday to Friday London Fix.

The decline shows a percentage drop of 0.8%. The London Fix for Silver for today, January 25, 2013 was $31.56 an ounce.

As for precious metals in general, it was a split week. Two of the four shown in the chart above were in positive territory, and two were in negative. Palladium showed the biggest increase with a $3 jump for the week resulting in a positive 0.4%. Platinum’s increase of $1 an ounce barely made any difference to the price. Silver shed the aforementioned 0.8% with gold losing the most at a decline of 1.7%.

Silver started the week off quite nicely with a Fix of $31.90 an ounce on Monday, up from the previous Friday’s $31.82. It increased further on Tuesday and Wednesday to $31.94 and $32.23, respectively. Thursday’s Fix dipped to $31.85 leading to Friday’s Fix of $31.56.

At $31.56 an ounce, silver is still up significantly from the 2013 low set on January 4th of $29.32. Doing the math shows the precious metal up $2.24 an ounce from that low, or 7.6%.

A new high for the year was set this week with the Fix on Wednesday, January 23rd. As previously mentioned, that Fix was $32.23 an ounce.
