Silver Coin Melt Values Down Another 2% This Week

The precious metal silver shed 2% for the week bringing Silver Coin Melt Values down along with it. The London Fix for Silver for today (April 27, 2012) was $31.14 an ounce.

Matters could have been worse, however, as silver actually was much lower earlier in the week before showing a rally on Friday. The lowest Fix for the week was down 3.4% in comparison to last Friday’s Fix. This marks the second week in a row that silver coin melt values have fallen after showing an increase of 3.5% just two weeks ago.

Precious metal performance for the week was split, as the chart above shows. Silver and platinum ended the week down with gold and palladium showing improvements. The biggest loser was silver with its 2% decline with palladium showing the largest gain at 1.7%.

Looking just at silver, the precious metal showed signs of trouble for most of the week and started off with a Monday Fix of $31.16, down $.63 from last Friday’s $31.79. Tuesday and Wednesday then both came in at $30.86 with Thursday being the low for the week at $30.70 an ounce before Friday’s jump up to $31.14.

Silver is still up 8.2% from its 2012 low established on January 3, 2012 of $28.78 an ounce. The white metal is down, however, 16.3% from its 2012 high of $37.23 from February 29, 2012.
