Silver Coin Melt Values Down First Full Week In February

Silver Coin Melt Values ended on Friday down slightly from the previous Friday stopping a run of weekly gains that had lasted for five weeks. The London Fix for Silver for Friday, February 10, 2012 was $33.55 an ounce.

That spot was down $.38 from where it stood just one week before at $33.93 an ounce. Doing the math shows a percentage decline of 1.1%

As the above chart shows, platinum was the only precious metal of the four to show any increases. The rest showed declines of 1.1% to 2.0%.

Speaking just of silver, the precious metal ended with a spot on Monday of $33.52 that was down from the aforementioned previous Friday’s spot of $33.93. The white metal slid further on Tuesday to $33.28 before showing remarkable strength on Wednesday with a fix of $34.37 (which also marked a 2012 high for the metal). However, the gains would not stand as Thursday dropped to $33.80 and ultimately fell even further to Friday’s $33.55.

For the year so far, the low for silver occurred on January 3rd with $28.78. The high for the year was the previously mentioned Wednesday, February 8th fix of $34.37.
