Silver Coin Melt Values End August With 4th Weekly Increase

Silver Coin Melt Values closed out the month with another weekly increase as silver climbed for the fourth week in a row. The London Fix for silver for Friday, August 31, 2012 came in at $30.52 an ounce.

This was an increase of $.15 from where it was last week Friday, or a jump of half a percent. For reference, the Friday to Friday weekly increases starting with August 3rd were 1.7%, 2.3%, 1.1% and this week’s 0.5%.

As the chart above shows, silver was the only precious metal of the four to show improvement for the week based on the Friday to Friday Fix. Gold showed the lowest percentage loss with its drop of 1.1%. It was followed by platinum’s 1.3% decrease and then palladium’s much larger 3.1% drop.

It was a short trading week for silver on the London market as not trading occurred on Monday. The precious metal jumped significantly on Tuesday coming in at $30.81 an ounce, up $.44 from the previous Friday’s $30.37. A small decline occurred on Wednesday down to $30.73 which slid further on Thursday to $30.66. Another drop followed on Friday leading to the aforementioned Fix of $30.52 an ounce.

At $30.52 an ounce, silver is up $3.85 from the 2012 low set on July 12th of $26.67 an ounce. This is an increase of 14.4% from that low.

Comparing to the 2012 high shows the precious metal down $6.71 from that high, or -18%. The high was established on February 29th and came in at $37.23 an ounce.
