Silver Coin Melt Values End Week At New 2012 Low

Silver ended this week at a new 2012 low shedding a significant 6.5% from the Silver Coin Melt Value levels seen just seven days ago. The London Fix for Silver for Friday, June 22, 2012 was $26.81 an ounce.

This was down $1.85 an ounce from the Fix last Friday. For the record, silver had been showing improvement over the last couple of weeks with last Friday’s Fix recording the second Friday to Friday increase in a row after it had realized a straight seven week decline.

All four precious metals in the chart shown above showed declines for the week based on Friday to Friday results. Hardest hit was silver with its aforementioned 6.5% drop as it shed $1.85 an ounce. The other three precious metals alls showed declines of 3.8% to 3.9%.

Silver started the week off with minor fluctuations before a significant drop on Wednesday which started a slide that was continued on Thursday and Friday. The London Fix on Monday was $28.43 an ounce, down from the previous Friday’s $28.66. Tuesday showed some improvement with a Fix of $28.81 with a fifty-cent decrease realized on Wednesday bringing it to $28.31. Thursday decreased even more to $27.88 before Friday’s $1.07 drop to $26.81 an ounce.

This Friday Fix qualifies as the new 2012 low. Before this week, the previous low for the year had been established on May 16th with a Fix of $27.25 an ounce. The precious metal is now down significantly (27.99%) from its 2012 high established on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce.
