Silver Coin Melt Values End Week Down 1.8%

After turning in a weekly increase of 3.5% last Friday, Silver Coin Melt Values ended this week down 1.8%. Silvers London Fix for Friday, April 20, 2012 was $31.79 per ounce.

This was a drop of $0.575 an ounce from the Fix of last Friday which was $32.365. A round-up of how other precious metals fared for the week is shown in the chart below:

Overall, it was a tough week for precious metals. The only four of the shown metals with a positive weekly return was palladium which ended up 3.6%. Gold, platinum and the aforementioned silver all ended down over 1% with silver showing the biggest loss.

As for silver, it showed signs of trouble right out of the gate on Monday when the Fix returned with $31.32 an ounce, down from the previous Friday’s $32.365. Then Tuesday showed some hope with a Fix of $31.64 followed by a slight decline on Wednesday at $31.61. Thursday’s London Fix was down even more at $31.47 before Friday’s Fix came in much higher at $31.79.

Friday’s $31.79 still nets a significant double digit gain of 10.4% over the 2012 low established on January 3rd of $28.78 an ounce. However, it is down significantly (14.6%) from the 2012 high of February 29th of $37.23 an ounce.
