Silver Coin Melt Values Establish New 2013 Low During the Week

Precious metals experienced a tough week dragging Silver Coin Melt Values down to a new 2013 low before realizing a slight recovery by the end of the week. Even with that recovery, silver shed $1.39 an ounce for the week based on the Friday to Friday London Fix.

This equates to a percentage drop of 4.6%, the largest weekly drop of the year so far. The London Fix for silver for today, February 22, 2013 was $28.79 an ounce.

Of the four precious metals shown above, silver was the hardest with its drop of 4.9%. It was followed by platinum which lost 3.9% and then palladium which dropped 2.9%. The smallest percentage drop of the four was gold which only fell $35.75 an ounce to lose 2.2%.

Silver spent the entire week down from last Friday’s Fix of $30.18 an ounce. On Monday and Tuesday, the Fix held at $30.00 with Wednesday dropping to $29.11 an ounce. Thursday saw the large drop down to $28.72. Friday’s Fix showed a slight recovery coming in at $28.79 an ounce.

This Thursday’s Fix of $28.72 an ounce now stands as the new 2013 low. Previous to this week, the 2013 low was held by January 4th with a fix of $29.32.

Friday’s Fix of $28.79 an ounce is down significantly from the 2013 high established on January 23rd of $32.23. Doing the math shows this Friday’s Fix down $3.44 from that high, or 10.7%.
