Silver Coin Melt Values Open October Up

The first few days of October 2012 saw silver prices rising slightly bringing Silver Coin Melt Values up as well. Based on the Friday to Friday weekly comparison, silver rose $0.20 an ounce, or a jump of 0.6%.

Even more impressive, silver hovered at levels this week not seen since March. The London Fix for Silver for today, October 5, 2012 was $34.85 an ounce.

It was a strong week for precious metals as the four in the chart above show. Leading the gains was palladium which jumped $25 an ounce, or an increase of 3.9%. It was followed by palladium’s rise of 2.6%, then the aforementioned weekly silver increase of 0.6% and finally gold, which increased 0.5%.

Looking back at silver shows the precious metal started the week down. Monday’s Fix was $34.35 an ounce, down from the previous Friday’s $34.65. On Tuesday, the precious metal rose to $34.85 before falling on Wednesday to $34.72. The weekly high occurred on Thursday with a Fix of $34.96 before falling slightly on Friday to $34.85 an ounce.

Silver is now up $7.98 an ounce from the 2012 low established on July 12th. That low saw the Fix coming in at just $26.67 an ounce.

The precious metal is still down, however, from the 2012 high. That was was set on February 29th with a Fix of $37.23. Comparing the high with Friday’s Fix shows Silver down $2.38 from that high, or 6.4%.
