Silver Coin Melt Values See Almost Double Digit Increases in June

Silver coin melt values realized significant earnings in June as the precious metal posted gains for the month. The market’s positive entry ended a three-month slide for melt values which started in March.

Closing out June on the 30th, the London Fix for Silver came in at $20.87 an ounce. This equates to a bump of $1.87 an ounce from its position at the end of May, or a gain of 9.8%.

Those gains were attributed to small increases seen throughout the month, which, despite some mid-course corrections, saw the market nearly increase by double digits.

A look at the averages for the month were not nearly as impressive. For June, average melt values only increases $0.42 from the averages of the month before, or up 2.2%.

Second quarter numbers were slightly more impressive with silver posting gains of $.90, or an increase of 4.5%. Six-month results were also positive as the precious metal ended up slightly with a $0.28 gain from the end of 2013, for a gain of 1.4%.

  • Gold closed June at $1315.00 an ounce, up 5.2% for the month, 1.8% for the quarter and 9.2% for the year
  • Platinum finished the month at $1480.00 an ounce, up 1.1% for June, 4.4% for the quarter and 9.1% for the year
  • Palladium ended June at $844.00 an ounce, up 1.0% for the month, 8.5% for the quarter and 17.9% for the year
