The silver market looked like a roller-coaster of ups and downs this last week taking Silver Coin Melt Values along for the ride. In the end, the precious metal slid 1.5% for the week based on Friday to Friday comparisons.
This decrease of a percent and a half comes one week after silver showed a positive gain of 0.6% improving on a new 2012 low established for the white metal earlier that week. For reference, the London Fix for Silver for Friday, July 20, 2012 was $27.07 an ounce.

As the chart above shows, it was a tough week for precious metals. The four all realized weekly declines based on the Friday to Friday London Fix. Hardest hit among the four was silver with its aforementioned drop of 1.5%. Realizing the smallest decrease was palladium at just 0.7%.
Looking back at just silver for the week shows the precious metal down to a London Fix of $27.05 from the previous Friday’s $27.48. The metal then improved on Tuesday with a Fix of $27.42 only to be eroded back down to $27.03 on Wednesday. Thursday jumped again to $27.45 before the aforementioned Friday Fix of $27.07.
The 2012 low was established on July 12, 2012 with a London Fix of $26.67. This places this Friday’s Fix up just 1.5% from that low. In comparison, the 2012 high was set on February 29th with $37.23 an ounce making this Friday’s Fix down 27.3% from that high.
