Silver Coin Melt Values Slide for Tenth Straight Month in July

Silver Coin Melt Values in July 2013 continued a depressing trend of lower monthly averages that go back now for a total of ten months. The US silver coin melt values have not posted a monthly average gain since September of 2012.

This negative news comes despite the fact that the associated precious metal actually closed out the month higher in July than it had in June. Still, those end of month gains were not enough to overcome the weak market place activity shown earlier in July.

For July 2013, the average London Fix for Silver came in at $19.71 an ounce. The average for the previous month of June was much higher at $21.11 per ounce. This equates to a difference of $1.40 an ounce, or a drop of 6.7%.

Were one to look just at the end of the month numbers, the picture would be much brighter. The London Fix for Silver closed out June at $18.86 an ounce on the 28th of the month. July, however, closed much higher at $19.94 an ounce on the 31st. The math here shows the precious metal jumping up $1.08, or a gain of 5.7%.

The difference between the end of the month figures and their averages can be partially attributed to the fact that the last day of June and the first days of July were still recovering from the lowest Fix seen for silver for the year to date. That 2013 low was set on the 27th of June and came in at $18.61 an ounce.
