Silver Coin Melt Values Up First Full Trading Week of January

The first full week of trading for the new year of 2012 found silver up slightly leading to higher silver coin melt values. The London Fix for Silver on Friday, January 13, 2012 was $29.64 an ounce.

In comparison, last week’s Friday London Fix was $29.40 an ounce. This marks the second week in a row that the precious metal saw weekly increases since diving the last week of 2011.

As is typical with precious metal markets, silver had its ups and downs during the week. Monday saw the London Fix for Silver at $28.85 an ounce, down from the aforementioned $29.40 of the previous Friday. Then silver rose to $29.69 on Tuesday with an additional increase to $29.81 on Wednesday. The precious metal did not stop there, however, with another increase on Thursday to $30.58 before falling to Friday’s spot of $29.64.

So far this year, the Thursday Spot of $30.58 an ounce reigns as the 2012 high for the precious metal. However, it is stands nowhere close to the high of last year which was $48.70 an ounce on April 28, 2011.

The low for 2012 is currently held by January 3rd with a spot of $28.78 an ounce. This is much higher than last year’s low of $26.16 an ounce which had occurred only a few weeks ago on December 29, 2011.
