Silver Drops 3.6% For the Week Bringing Silver Coin Melt Values Down

Silver Coin Melt Values ended down for the week as the precious metal took a 3.6% dip. That percentage is based on last Friday’s London Fix against yesterday, April 5, 2012. (London markets are closed today, April 6, 2012 for Good Friday.)

The London Fix yesterday was $31.27 an ounce. This was down $1.16 from the Fix of last Friday of $32.43 an ounce.

Despite being a short week, it was a hard one for all four of the shown precious metals. As can be seen in the chart, each one showed declines for the week. The hardest hit was silver with the aforementioned 3.6% decline. This was followed by platinum with a 2.9% drop, then palladium which was down 2.5% and finally gold which ended the week with a drop of 1.9%.

Silver had some ups and downs during the week. Monday’s Fix came in at $32.42 which was down just a cent from the previous Friday’s $32.43. Then Tuesday saw a nice increase coming in at $32.97 before Wednesday’s drop to $31.98 leading to the Thursday Fix of $31.27.

Silver is still up a relatively decent 8.7% (or $2.49) from its 2012 low established on January 3rd of $28.78 an ounce. The precious metal is down significantly, however, from its 2012 high established on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce.
