Silver Ends First Full Week of May At New 2012 Low

Silver had another tough week marking the fourth in a row in which the precious metal ended down. As if that news was not bad enough, the London Fix also tread into new low territory for 2012 bringing Silver Set Melt Values down along with it. The London Fix for Silver for May 11, 2012 was $28.58 an ounce.

That Fix is low enough to qualify as the new 2012 low dipping $.20 below the previous bottom established on the first trading day of the year, January 3, 2012. Looking at just the past week shows a decline of 4.4% from last Friday’s Fix of $29.90 an ounce.

All four precious metals shown in the chart above realized significant declines for the week. The hardest hit of the four was palladium which dropped a massive 8.7% for the week coming in at $605.00 an ounce or $58 down from where it was just one week ago. Showing the least percentage decline for the week was gold which still shed 4.0%.

Back to just silver shows a tough shortened trading week for the precious metal. Tuesday’s Fix came in at $29.58 an ounce, down $0.32 from the aforementioned $29.90 of the previous Friday. Wednesday’s Fix was down even further to $28.77 an ounce before Thursday showed some growth to $29.25. Finally, Friday’s Fix was down to $28.58 an ounce.

As previously mentioned, silver’s new 2012 low is now Fridays Fix of $28.58 an ounce. This is down $8.58 an ounce (or 23.2%) from the 2012 high established on February 29, 2012 of $37.23 an ounce.
