It was a very good week for precious metals as the chart above shows. All four of those listed finished the week with gains, some rather significant. Silver had the best increase jumping up by the aforementioned 4.6%. It was followed by platinum which rose a close 4.4%. Palladium marked a 0.7% increase followed by gold which rose by 0.6%.

Looking back at just silver shows the weekly gain was achieved through smaller increments realized throughout the week. Monday had the largest daily gain with its Fix of $30.14 an ounce, up from the previous Friday’s $29.32. Tuesday and Wednesday both came in with a Fix of $30.39 with Thursday rising slightly to $30.49 an ounce. Finally, Friday’s Fix was $30.67 an ounce.

At $30.67 an ounce, this Friday’s Fix is down slightly from the 2013 high set on January 3rd of $30.91. Doing the math shows Friday’s Fix down $0.24 from that high, or -0.8%.

The low for the year was set on January 4th with its Fix of $29.32. As that was last Friday’s Fix, the increase over that low is the same as already mentioned for this week, or a positive 4.6% from that low.
