Silver Set Melt Values End Four-Week Slide As Precious Metal Jumps

Silver prices rose for the week bringing along Silver Set Melt Values ending a slide down that had been occurring for the previous four weeks. The London Fix for Silver for Friday, March 30, 2012 was $32.43 an ounce.

This equaled a weekly increase of $0.89 an ounce from last week’s Friday Fix for the precious metal. For reference, that Fix was $31.54.

The four precious metals in the chart above split as two rose for the week and two declined. Silver led with its 2.8% increase followed by platinum with a 1.4% jump. Gold ended almost even with a slight drop of 0.1% with palladium ending down 1.1%.

Silver actually had Fixings higher during the week then where it ended, but it also showed a lower daily Fix. Monday, the London Fix was $32.23, up from the previous Friday’s $31.54 an ounce. The increase continued on Tuesday with $33.01 before falling on Wednesday to $32.43 and down more on Thursday with $31.79. It rebounded on Friday to the aforementioned $32.43 an ounce.

At $32.43, silver is still down 12.9% from its 2012 high established on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce. It is up, however, 11.3% from the 2012 low established on January 3rd of $28.78 an ounce.
