Silver Set Melt Values Jump 7.7% In Third Full Week of August

As the price of silver jumped this week, so did Silver Set Melt Values. In fact, the precious metal increased a remarkable 7.7% (or $2.17) as the London Fix for silver for Friday, August 24, 2012 came in at $30.37 an ounce.

This marks the third week in a row that the precious metal showed increases based on the Friday to Friday London Fix. Two weeks ago silver improved 2.3% followed by last week’s 1.1% increase.

All four precious metals shown in the chart above showed significant improvement during the week. Leading the pack was palladium with a jump of 8.6% from last week’s Friday Fix. It was followed by silver with the aforementioned 7.7% increase, then platinum which rose 5.6%. Gold showed the smallest percentage increase with 3.2%.

Looking back at just silver showed the precious metal with a small decline on Monday to $28.10 an ounce, down $.10 from the previous Friday’s $28.20. From then on, silver kept increasing every day with Tuesday coming in at $28.92, Wednesday with $29.33, Thursday at $30.32 and finally Friday’s Fix of $30.37 an ounce.

Comparing silver to the 2012 low established on July 12th of $26.67 an ounce shows the precious metal up a solid $3.70 from that low. This is an increase of 13.9%.

However, it still is down significantly from the 2012 high established on February 29th of $37.23 an ounce. Based on Friday’s London Fix, the precious metal is still down $6.86 from that high, or 18.4%.
