Silver Trends Up 10.8% in February Bringing Coin Melt Values With It

The silver market ended February with a double digit gain of 10.8% over the previous month bringing silver coin melt values along with it. The precious metal had a London Spot on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 of $37.23 an ounce. This equates to an increase of $3.63 an ounce over the last trading day of January (the 31st) which had a spot of $33.60.

Looking at the monthly trend paints an even brighter picture as the white metal surged 19.2% last month over the previous. In looking at the year as a whole, silver is up $9.05 an ounce from where it ended last year of $28.18, or up over 32%.

As the chart above indicates, the four shown precious metals all showed healthy gains for the month. The smallest monthly gain as far as percentage goes was gold with its 1.5% jump. The largest was the aforementioned silver with the 10.8%.

Looking at specific days, the high for the year for silver was the 29th of February with its London Spot of $37.23. The low is held by January 3rd with $28.78 an ounce. Those figures and dates further exemplify the positive trend seen in the silver market.
